Slices of Life

Praise Microsoft: I know, I know. But they did something right. Continuing its steady deterioration, my computer confronted me with a disk error the other night. Actual bad clusters on the surface of the disk. The file affected was my sent mail archive in Outlook. After suffering through an absolutely exasperating process to repair the disk (4+ hours just to get the right recovery program started), the MS Inbox Recovery Tool, part of the standard installation of Outlook 2000, restored my mail archives lickety-split.

Instant Karma: I just got my credit card bill for the CDs I bought a few weeks ago. You may recall my dilemma and my fears of a karmic backhand coming my way. It seems that immediately after I left the store, they realized the mistake and charged the remaining $23 to my card. I'm completely OK with this.

For Reals: The fact that I'm starting law school in three months has suddenly started to seem very real and very concrete to me. It's exhilarating and intimidating. It also means once again I'm getting ready to leave a place I've called home. But there's still so much to do in Boston.

Faux Pas: I think I misinterpreted a bad connection on my cell phone as a prank call, and I may have told my dad to fuck off. How unfortunate. I talked to him a little while later and we kind of glossed over it, so I'm really not sure if it was him or not. We had a nice chat though.

Attention Laptop Makers: Between now and the end of August, I need to purchase a new laptop. I've been doing extensive research. The only real conclusion I've reached is that computer manufacturers have atrocious web sites. If I'm shopping for a new computer, chances are my current computer is old and on the slow side, so please don't make your site so cumbersome. It's really quite excruciating. And for God's sake, make sure the site works. Clicking links for detailed information about your product should not give me your ever-so-polite 404 page saying that I must have mistyped the address.

mmmmm... law school.

you'll love it. you'll hate it.

you'll learn to love it again. you'll learn to hate it again.

and then you'll just go numb.

and after that, the second week starts.

have fun!

dude, i'm gettin a dell. actually, a dell, toshiba, or sony, i think.

i love the ibooks, but i need a windows machine for exams at georgetown. i might buy an ibook down the road just for shits 'n' giggles though.

pat, i think my case of dotcom disenchantment has prepared me for at least some of the attitude adjustments i will cycle through during law school. sure hope i'm right.
