Dilemma
It's 1:15am on the due date of the final draft of your term paper. You are in Los Angeles, but your school and professors are in Washington, D.C. Assume the latest you can turn in the paper by email is 5pm eastern, giving you roughly 12 hours and 45 minutes. It is feasible for you to meet this deadline, and even to do a decent job on the edits to your paper, but it is going to take a while yet. Minor inconvenient detail: You are supposed to be at work in roughly 7 hours and 45 minutes, where you must be coherent and personable all day.
The only source of caffeine in the house is Coca-Cola C2. What do you do?
(a) Whatever it takes to get the job done, soldier. Pinch your nose and drink the vile concoction.
(b) Surrender. It can't be done without caffeine, and you have to draw the line somewhere, right? I mean, C2?
(c) Sacrifice a limb to Cotsquixolaxatl, the Aztec god of procrastination and academic success. You've got 3 to spare, and by golly, there are grades at stake!
(d) Procrastinate by posting to your blog for a few minutes of distraction and delirious amusement.

While I am utterly horrified that there is Coke C2 in your house, there are other concerns.
First is that you bailed on option e) Drive to 7-11 and get a Ubergulp coffee.
But, in your situation, assuming that there is no other caffeine in a 100 mile radius, drink the C2. Think of it as Gummi Berri juice, only viler. Or maybe Popeye, before he acquired the taste for spinach.
As far as work goes, sometimes being tired can make you more personable, if somewhat less coherent. And the feeling of getting the paper done will push you to the happy side. Presentable only requires a shave and a comb.

This past week, I consumed 7 of the 8 C2 I purchased last week at Publix. It wasn't nearly as vile as I expected. A sort of happy medium between Diet Coke and the elixer of attention aka, Coke.
I can't believe I just defended C2. I am a whore. And why are they selling it in 8 packs?
Oh, and by the way, you are a SLACKER! I've avoided using TheBrain(tm) for weeks now so you could finish this so called "paper" and here you are waiting until the last minute and using all the precious cycles in one fell swoop. No wonder I've been staring out the window for hours.

Is it that bad? Hmm, I liked new coke, so maybe I'll like C2, though the thought of contributing to the whole Atkins revolution sort of turns my stomach.

C2 really isn't for people on Atkins though. There's like an entire meal worth of carbs in one C2, instead of an entire day's worth of carbs like in regular Coke.

Yeah, I wouldn't bother with c2 unless maybe you think Coke is too sweet (sacrilege!).

I like my diet drinks diet and my regular drinks regular (best around Passover every year, when they use real sugar instead of corn syrup to keep us Yids happy).
It's like the people at Coke have been watching L.A. Story too much.

The LA Story comment is right on.
And as to the happy medium, well duh! Mixing coke and diet coke will bring you a happy medium between the two.
I tastes like regular coke but has that diet coke aftertaste.

Slightly off-topic, but I'm curious if anyone else finds that Diet Coke makes them more ADD (less focused)? When I drink DC, I often feel rather out of it, mentally speaking. I know all the folklore regarding the embalming of my brain with chemicals, but seriously...

Shoop's been hittin' the Diet Coke again.

what?!
Posted by: shoop at June 27, 2004 05:57 PM
So what did you end up doing?
Posted by: Chocobo puduu at June 29, 2004 11:05 AM
approximately t-24:00 and counting...and yeah, as you noted there is that work in the morning thing...well...just about 10 more pages to write...i should really stop teetering and decide what route i want my paper to take...

Drank some C2, which accomplished nothing. Kept working until I passed out, which was shortly after the power in my apartment went out for a minute, around 2 or 2:30. Finished the paper and submitted it the next day.
